Books to download, what not to read and where to go! For Booklovers

One of the things in am aiming yo do this year is to do a little more reading,
And so far so good.
I have read James Patterson Guilty Wives in the first week of this month and found it an exciting read, followed by a True Blood Novel and last night I just started a new Book 'Push' by Shapphire which was made in to a motion picture film featuring Mariah Carey called Precious.

When it comes to books I'm a bit of a collector in a sense I buy to many and can't keep up with what I have and what I am buying, so on a positive note if you like anything like me where you to read pile keeps growing but is scattered around the house I would highly recommend the App Goodreads.

It's a mobile app that is pretty intuitive on the direction and how it works:

With you and friends being able to do regular updates and even talk to other people who have read the same book as you and also see recommendations through friends reads and your own.

Linking with  Facebook and Twitter this is the Intagram for book lovers in a way to connect,
Though my favroite part is the linking book managment part and progress part of the App.

Where you can see your progress and also what you have read and make a virtual pile of books to read.
Which has actually helped me move on with my reading quickly and where I struggle to complete a book a month I have completed 3 already this month.

Though moving on to the book 'Push'

I bought this on a sale at a recamarkable price of 50p,
And it has been sitting on my book shelf for over a year now.
Last night I finished one book and scattered through my shelf and picked this one up.

The first few pages of the book was hard for me to read considering I love reading but am dislexic so therefore the way the book was written in Ghetto English of how the character precious would speak and no grammar I found hard.

Though when I started reading the book I found it was a short novel of less then 200 pages so was quickly getting through it.

The story is of a girl who is abused and trying to get educated in a poor society living in one of the worst parts of America with awful parents and her being pregnant twice.

Though the sexual abuse of the character was to graphic and almost bordered on Phedophlile porn as far as I'm concerned.

It was way to graphic I'm detail about the abuse where it could have been edited to be a little less to gritty, which I'm surprised I'm saying.

The general story was good and heartbreaking though I feel mentally after I read this I was mind raped with images I didn't want to ever imagine and am surprised this got made into a film.

I spoken to my sister who is a mother of a five year old and she couldn't even get through the book though she enjoyed the film which was edited to give you the jist of the sexual abuse but not going into too much detail.

The worst part for me was the ending of the book which doesn't sound like the ending of the film which was all very happy.

If you are curious of this book I would say No just watch the film instead to get the jist of the story something I never thought I would hear myself say.

Finally on a totally different book note, for people that love dogs and love reading I have mentioned in the past Soho's Society Club.

Which I am sitting in at the moment with one of the resident chihuahua's on my lap.
And sitting next to a very friendly Bulldog called modesty.

With lots of fun diverse
Books in the shop from erotic to poetic and feminism and fashion among more I love this little treasure trove of soho where art is for sale and which is used to decorate the place with a friendly atmosphere and a bar as well as coffee shop part so cocktails or coffee.

Here I sit having my Peppermint Tea with a Betty Page photo on sale with frame for £40:00
In a present atmosphere of music that sounds like it's from the 40's.
And a lot of creative individuals almost making this like East London in Central London with the vibe.

The store has had a refit and I'm loving it even more then ever.
So for somewhere for a quirky read a cocktail or somewhere to chill and blog like I am now this is where I recommend to go for the January blues

So overall my message for this week is

1: Download GoodReads for your smartphones and Tablets

2: The book isn't always better then the film I have learned. And just cause Oprah says its a good book doesn't mean it is.

3: For creatives and Booklovers do go to 'Soho Society Club' and give something new a try for this month.
As reading alone so great but reading in this vibe is out of this world.

Happy 2014 readers
