Balance - by Michael Williamson
Michael Williamson | Balance
Michael
Williamson, known as @Quirkygentleman, spent the past year
consciously following the rhythm of the moon, a practice rooted in earlier
works like Drawing in the Dark and their photographic
explorations, now reimagined through the discipline of painting.
This lunar
cycle became both a creative structure and a metaphor for life: the full moon
brought energy, visibility, and action, while the new moon invited withdrawal,
reflection, and nurture. It was in this quiet tension between showing up and
slowing down that Balance was born.
Their sixth
exhibition this year and first fully painted solo show, Balance marks
a turning point in Michael’s journey as a full-time artist. It reflects a year
of personal upheaval, emotional recalibration, and the decision to honour their
inner rhythms before turning 40. The show is a visual meditation on duality,
feminine and masculine energies, chaos and clarity, presence and absence, and
an invitation to connect through the quirks and contradictions we often hide.
Michael’s work
draws on nature, memory, and the moon, which remains a central motif across
their practice. Their paintings explore the subtle communication between the
seen and unseen, asking whether we are truly present in each moment, and how
our private struggles mirror those of others. What may feel unique or odd is
often shared, and it’s in that recognition that connection blooms.
They studied
Fine Art and Design before graduating in Fashion Design from Northbrook
College, Worthing. Their creative path includes styling for London Fashion
Week, an installation at the National Portrait Gallery with Rankin. Michael
also hosts weekly YouTube videos as @Quirkygentleman, making art
and culture accessible to all.
Balance is not
just an exhibition, it’s a threshold. A space to recalibrate, to reflect, and
to begin again. A moment to ask yourself:
Where do you
find balance and what might shift if you truly listened to your rhythm?
