MAZE: a film installation by Stuart Pearson Wright

passing by what looks like a empty building where it looks like a shop that is soon to be renovated to yet another new store while walking down Berwick street today I immediately stopped when I got to the corner and saw two beautifully crafted period costumes one male and one female,
I terminated my Phone call that I was on to go into this space where I was glad of the choice I made.

When entering what looks like a Building site there is a lady on a table with the relevant press information for a new artist Stuart Pearson Wright.

she explains if you go down the stairs there is a 12 min film showing which i go to take a look

when walking down the stairs the room is split by two film screens across each other opisite side of the room,

on one screen is a beautiful period woman running through a maze which after watching for a while I recognize the beautiful actress Keira Knightley on the opposite side is a male counterpart that is in period costume again ( elizabethan costume ).

you start to see that the two people are on each screen are stuck in a maze and trying to call each other and find each other your attention is split trying to follow both stories looking from left to right at both of the film screens,

as the darkness falls upon them you start to feel worry and a certain sense of dread for the two people in this maze, but what i found most interesting is that you really feel part of this piece while watching it the film taps into your senses and makes you become unaware of your surroundings in a dark Soho basement and into the piece

it has been a long time that I have been to the cinema and seen something that has moved me and Stuart Pearson Wright managed to do that in just 12 mins long with his film piece

I definitely recommend the trip to anyone and Think this is something that will be different reactions to every viewer as the viewer can try to follow both characters chaotically like i did or follow the male or female role either way

with sound coming behind you of birds etc in the hedges you start to feel very much part of the experience causing a sensation of claustrophobia

the exhibition shows at 1 berwick street London W1f0dr

and is currently showing up to the 26th June 2010
